Control Your DSLR With Your N900!

Have a DSLR and want a wireless remote to take pics?  If you have an N900 then you’re in luck!  Hit up the read more to find out how and to see it in action.

So here’s the scenario.  You have a DSLR, and you want to be able to take pics via a remote control.  You don’t want to spend extra money on a remote and you want it to be wireless too.  Here’s how you can do it with your N900.

First off, you need the extra repositories enabled.  Go here to find out how to do it if you haven’t done it yet.  After you’ve enabled it, go and install IR Shutter.  It’s a small app and it’s free so it should be quick and painless.

Once you’re done installing it, go to your desktop and access the add widget menu.  Add the IR Shutter widget and then click on the settings  icon (bottom left of widget).

From there you can choose which DSLR brand you have.  The only DSLR not on the list are Sony’s.  It worked on my wife’s Nikon D3000, so if you have any of the fairly new DSLR’s it should work.  Check your DSLR’s specs to see if it has an IR receiver.

After you selected the right settings.  Just set your DSLR’s release mode to “remote” and you should be good to go.  Just click the widget and voila!

Make sure you don’t cover the IR transmitter on your N900 while doing it and it should work smoothly.  I tested the range on mine, and I was able to snap pics from about 10 to 12 ft.

Check it out in action below.
